Week 3 -Secondary Pictures-

At the start of the lesson, I edited the secondary pictures I took last week. This time I decided to experiment a bit more with the editing tools. Of course, I stuck to the two main changes, cropping and reshaping the curves. This was a very good experience because I was able to see what tools could be fun and interesting to use. For example, I used the Hue/Saturation tool. This was very fun because it changed the colors, I was able to mess about and get an interesting effect. Here are some examples of some edited images:

As you can see the result is quite fun and interesting.
                                                      I also decreased the brightness.

I then did some book work. This is very important if I want to keep a decent amount of work. In the afternoon, I wasn't able to attend the practical ( people went out to take pictures ) so I didn't get much to work on. Next lesson, I'll try to take some quick pictures to replace what people did.

Week 2 -Control-

At the start of today's lesson I edited the pictures I had taken in the previous lesson. The first step was cropping. This is important to get rid of any unwanted elements, or to make the elements be on the lines of thirds. But for one of the images I didn't crop because I didn't think it was necessary. The second step was to change the curves. We were told that making an S with them would make them look nicer. I think this augments the tone and the contrast. These were the two main steps, even though I sometimes did some other changes. Here is an example:

I took a very focused picture of a fence. I think this looks nice because
of the spider web, it sort of creates an other sense of control.
This is after the edit. As you can see its in black and white. I also
augmented the brightness and the contrast(this brings out the spiderweb).
I also changed the curves. This gives more heat to the image.

After editing, I did some research on images illustrating control.  It was very hard because "control" is a very vague word. Its very hard to actually define control, but I stuck with the control of yourself and objects around you, escaping the control...:

In my view, these are two examples of control of objects around
you. In the first case, he is controlling his skateboard and in the
second case the man is controlling machinery.

I then went to take pictures after doing the research. I stuck with the same ideas. We went around the school and took some pictures. It seems like inspiration didn't come because I didn't take many good pictures. For me, only 3 pictures were worth editing. Heres one of them:

Next week I will edit them and try to experiment a bit.

Week 1 -Fine Art-

This weeks session was an introduction to Fine Art photography. The first thing we did was researching the meaning of it. It was quite hard to understand because art cannot be described. But the general meaning was that it was a picture made just for art, and not for advertising or making a point. I wrote everything else down in my sketchbook and illustrated it with some images. After that we researched some special artists like Rankin and Louise Bourgious. It was interesting knowing what Fine Art was actually like and how artist interpretated it.
After that we actually got our brief: it was called Control. Event if that seemed a bit strange, I managed to get ideas. Even if I had ideas like the control of adults over kids, or the control of governments, I was thinking more about the control of your body and the things around you ( for example dance in the first case and juggling in the second ). I think these ideas are quite original. I even though of "escaping" the control, like climbing over a fence or something like that.
When the brief was finished, we were able to go out and take some pictures, to do with control. I believe I took more than a hundred pictures ( the cameras were of a very good quality and easy to use) and only kept six. Here's one of them :

I didn't have time to edit because I had some problems but thats what I will do next lesson.
